The <a href="http://www.brown.edu/web/gab3/view.php?id=332">Brown Persian Club</a> presented a talk by the 2006 <a href="http://www.brown.edu/Departments/Literary_Arts/IWP/index.html">International Writers Project</a> Fellow <a href="http://www.watsoninstitute.org/contacts_detail.cfm?id=642">Shahriar Mandanipour</a> on <strong>Sunday, April 23,</strong> at 8:00 p.m., in Petteruti Lounge, Faunce House, College Green. Mandanipour, an award-winning Iranian author, is the third fellow since the program was begun in 2004, each of whom has been in residence at the Watson Institute. The Institute cosponsored this event.

Watson Institute Hosts UN Security Council Members for Sanctions Reform Workshop -
Representatives from all 15 current members of the United Nations Security Council attended a May 2–3 workshop at Brown University. The Watson Institute hosted the event, which reviewed sanctions reform processes developed during the past five years and provided an off-site setting for discussion among Mission staff, the UN Secretariat staff, and sanctions experts.

RI High School Students Head to State Capitol for International Civic Education Program -
Rhode Island High school students will travel to the State Capitol in Providence on Monday, March 31, 2003, to debate critical international concerns on the environment, immigration, trade, conflict resolution, and the role of the U.S. in the world. Prominent in their deliberations will be the war in Iraq. The students are engaged in the fourth annual Rhode Island Capitol Forum on America's Future cosponsored by Global Rhode Island and the RI Secretary of State's Office. Senator Lincoln Chafee, former Ambassador William Twaddell, Mr. William Shuey of the International Institute of Rhode Island, Secretary of State Matthew Brown, and Dr. Richard Nuccio of Salve Regina's Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy will address the students.

Brown University Inaugurates International Writers Fellowships -
Brown University announces and seeks applications for an innovative new writing program—The International Writers Project Fellowship. The one-year resident Fellowship aims to support international creative writers—fiction, dramatists, and poets—who risk danger within their home country for artistic free expression. In addition, the program each year will feature a speaker series focused on human rights and free expression globally and a festival highlighting the particular national artistic and political identity of the resident writer. The Fellowship is a partnership between Brown's Creative Writing Program and the Watson Institute for International Studies. The William H. Donner Foundation is funding the program.
The application deadline is April 15, 2003.

Prominent in their deliberations will be the looming war with Iraq.
