CineBRASIL, Brown University’s Brazilian Film Festival, announces its second edition from March 5th to March 7th, 2009. Once again, this will be a unique opportunity to share the rich Brazilian culture and traditions, as well as some of the contemporary issues affecting Brazil and its people, through its excellent cinematography. A group of Brown University students open this year’s festival with their program Nós do cinema. This documentary was produced largely thanks to the funds from last year’s CineBRASIL’s Oliver Kwon Grant. Q&A with other guest directors and producers will also be part of this year’s fascinating program.

Sponsored by the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, the Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies, Brown University’s Creative Arts Council, the Renaissance Hotel Providence, and Andréas Restaurant, this event will bring the latest in Brazilian cinema to the New England region. In collaboration with the Cinemateca Brasileira in São Paulo, Brazil, the program will consist of newly produced feature films, documentaries, and shorts made in and about Brazil. A new section screening a classic of Brazilian cinema will be introduced this year with Andrea Tonacci’s Bang Bang. The Director will be available to answer questions after the screening.
