ConocoPhillips Chair in Latin American Studies

The University of Oklahoma invites nominations and applications for the ConocoPhillips Chair in Latin American Studies in the School of International and Area Studies, a tenured position at the level of associate or full professor.

Candidates must demonstrate the following qualifications:
A strong record of research and publication in any social science or humanities discipline related to Latin American Studies

Evidence of excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching
An earned doctorate

We are especially interested in candidates with any of the following specializations:

The international relations of Latin America, including relations between the United States and Latin America

The political economy of Latin America, including energy resources

A comparative focus on Brazil

The School of International and Area Studies (SIAS) (www.ou.edu/sias/) is an interdisciplinary unit in the College of Arts and Sciences with faculty drawn from a wide variety of disciplines. Many hold joint-appointments in other departments and colleges of the university. The school serves as a center for international education and scholarship, preparing students for positions of leadership in the new global environment and fostering scholarship on important international issues.

The University. Established in 1890, the University of Oklahoma is a public research university that enrolls over 23,000 students at its main campus in Norman and an additional 7,000 students at the Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, the Schusterman Center in Tulsa and in continuing education programs. The University ranks first nationally among public institutions in the number of National Merit Scholars per capita, and ranks in the top 30 public universities in private endowment per capita and has more than 145 reciprocal educational exchange programs with universities in over 66 countries. Located 20 miles south of Oklahoma City, Norman is rich in culture and the arts with outstanding public schools and a variety of recreational resources.

Applications and Nominations: Applicants must submit a letter explaining their interest in and qualifications for the position, a complete curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of at least three references. Nominations should include a brief description and contact information for the nominee. Review of applications will begin on Nov. 9, 2007 and will continue until the position is filled.
