Between the Antigua and Havana Conferences

< Previous Table of Contents Next >

The US organizing committee, led by Jim and janet, made many trips to Havana to negotiate conditions for a conference in Havana. Here, we are using a little "baseball diplomacy" -- exchanging a Brown University baseball cap for a cap that the Cuban national baseball team would wear in the upcoming Pan American games. Pictured, left to right, David Lewis ('90, project research assistant and interpreter), Jorge Risquet (who predicted, correctly, that Cuba would win the gold medal by beating the US team), janet Lang, and Jim Blight.
