Deconstructing Sport
A Conference at the Intersection of Sport and Human Rights
Sponsored by the Roosevelt Institution and the Royce Fellowship for Sport and Society April 14–15, 2008

What role can sports play in development and community building? What is the relationship between sports and human rights—is the "right to play" an inalienable right on the same level as freedom of expression and the entitlement to a fair standard of living? Can sports play a role in mediating conflict, even at an international level? And do sports really have an important place within these interdisciplinary discourses? From April 14 to April 15, 2008, Brown University will host a two-day series of film screenings, lectures, and panel discussions about the role of sport in society. The conference will take a cross-cutting look at the many applications of sport, bringing together a diverse range of perspectives from education, sociology, economics, public health and medicine, development studies, international relations, and public policy.
