Bala Ram Kandel, a 2008 Watson International Scholar of the Environment, is a senior community forestry officer with the Government of Nepal's Department of Forests.
Mr. Kandel holds an MSc in natural resources management from the International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences in the Netherlands and a BSc in general sciences and botany from Tribhuvan University in Nepal. He also holds an MSc in Forestry from the Indian Forest College (now the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy) in Dehradun, India.
