2003 Watson International Scholars of the Environment

Mpumelelo Ncwadi is an environmental engineer based in Cape Town, South Africa. He received an MBA from the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business. He also obtained an MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development from the Cambridge University Engineering Department (CUED), where he enjoyed the privilege and honor of being a Nelson Mandela Scholar in 2004. Mpumelelo received his BS in Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin (USA). He was one of the first five black young South Africans to be awarded a Diploma in Mine Surveying by the then Witwatersrand Technikon and now University of Johannesburg.

Mpumelelo also participated in the Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program at the University of California at Berkeley. He has worked for more than 15 years in various engineering and development projects in many developing nations.
