Dr. Victor Vinas-Nicolas was a 2001 Watson International Scholar of the Environment. In 2004, he stepped down from university work and transitioned to a career as a private consultant. His current work focuses on economics research and environmental matters dealing with international cooperation and Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), especially the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In addition, he serves as Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Environment (SEMARENA) of the Dominican Republic as a climate change specialist. Through this work, Dr. Vinas-Nicolas is seeking to involve the local population through local governments, and to allow for the promotion of alternative livelihoods that reduce human impact on the environment.  Click here to view curriculum vitae.
