
Jasjit Singh Walia, a 2008 Watson International Scholar of the Environment, is Chief Conservator of Forests (Production, Sales, Audit & Eco-System Services). He coordinates the timber production and sales aspect issues between the Himachal Forest Department and the Himachal Pradesh State Forest Development Corporation; monitors audit aspects of the department and supervises a core group in the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department to deal with issues relating to climate change (REDD, carbon markets, development of CDM projects), bio-fuels propagation, payment for eco-system services, and other related matters.
In addition to attending the World Forest Institute’s International Fellowship program in Portland, Oregon, Mr. Walia holds certificates in forestry planning and management, project analysis, and evaluation from the Australian National University; as well as in soil and water conservation from the Central Soil and Water Conservation, Research and Training Institute in Dehradrun, India.
Mr. Walia earned his MSc in forestry from the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy and his engineering degrees in transportation and civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.
