Admissions

All GPD Fellows are PhD candidates in Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, or Sociology. Upon admission to a PhD program, students are nominated by their academic departments for GPD fellowships. (PhD students in Economics can only apply after the completion of their first year exams). An interdepartmental GPD committee awards fellowships to the most outstanding candidates, but GPD courses and activities are open to all graduate students. The committee consists of the Graduate Advisors of the participating departments, the Director of the Development Studies Program, and the Director of the Political Economy and Development Research Program at the Watson Institute.

Interested applicants should apply directly to the department of Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, or Sociology. Students accepting fellowships from GPD are committed to meeting the requirements listed below. In most cases, GPD Fellows will fulfill their GPD course requirements in their second year of graduate training. The GPD program has been designed to integrate into existing PhD programs and requirements.
