Michael Klier (Germany), originally from the Czech Republic, studied philosophy and history at Freie University in Berlin. Today, he works as an independent film and videomaker, with documentaries, feature films, and portraits among his portfolio. His 1983 film presented in this exhibition, "Der Riese," which received international recognition, confronts the issue of video surveillance. Early in his career, he worked on several of Truffaut's films in France. During the 1970s and 1980s, Klier produced several films about influential European directors, such as Jean-Luc Godard, Roberto Rossellin, and Wim Wenders.

A view of Der Riese [The Giant] projected in the Watson Institute's Joukowsky Forum. 1983 (video, color and b/w, sound, 82 min.)
